I got to run a bit with Kiya Dandena, an All-American and All-Conference distance runner; if I am correct here, he also has a half-marathon time of 1 hour and 3 minutes; he is a potential Olympian and an elite runner. While on my tempo run, Dandena ran beside me and stated that I was a good runner; he went on to tell me how fit I am and that my form is good; I laughed and told him I bet you are on your recovery run? He smiled and said yes. I told him I was trying to hit my last mile of my tempo run at 6:50. Thus, he asked to pace me to the end of this mile — which felt easy. It is amazing how much easier a run feels when you are being paced.

Because I misread my training schedule for this run, I did two miles more and ran my slow miles faster. Oh, and the matter of heat — though I still got out early. Again Houston or Montgomery, the heat is ubiquitous.
