On January 30th, the Houston Food Bank, a non-profit organization aimed to fight the war against hunger, sponsored a volunteer station at mile 4 of the Houston Marathon, as well as at the post-race gathering. I have never served as a volunteer. It was fun to watch a race, for once, without running in one. I enjoyed encouraging the various types of runners, as many of them raced their way around the large urban metroplex called Houston. There are so many types of people who run these things. Those, much like myself, are highly competitive. And others, who are running in support of a cause, or to subtract the event from their bucket list. No matter the time or the place, I congratulate those that put in the time and effort to run such an event.
